Most high school graduates and individuals intending to return to school to pursue a college degree dream of entering one of the most prestigious and high-class universities in the world – Harvard, most especially, the university’s School of Law. And that was what a high school graduate with a 2.0 GPA just did, and made his dream come true!
Rehan Staton was an employee at the Bates Trucking Trash Removal Inc. in Maryland and worked for years before he decided to return to school. He and his brother were helping with the family’s finances.
“That’s why I became a garbage man – because no college took me after graduation,” Rehan said during an interview with the local news.
He graduated from high school with only a 2.0 GPA and had poor grades. However, even if he had low grades in high school, his co-workers encouraged him to return to school.
Rehan built his confidence from their encouragement and entered the University of Maryland. His family contributed to his success, and Rehan is very grateful. “I had a great dad, a great older brother who sacrificed, and eventually they helped me find my way,” he shared in the interview.
Eventually, filmmaker Tyler Perry helped Rehan enter Harvard University. He paid for his tuition fees and played an essential part in Rehan’s journey to a Law Degree. Rehan assumed that someone was playing a prank on him and was finally convinced when Tyler did his Madea voice.
Rehan admit that it was a life-changing experience being at Harvard. He was surrounded by wonderful professors and supportive classmates. “There is no easy way to say it. But I guess growing up like in the house that I grew up in again,” he said. “There were times where there was like black mold festering, and we didn’t have heat. Just constant survival every day. My brother even had to drop out of school so I could go to school,” Rehan said.
Rehan proudly said that he had so much support from people that he ultimately reached his goal. He has graduated and earned his degree in Law at Harvard University, one of the most prestigious schools in the world. He claimed that he wanted to pursue his career at a Law firm in New York City, and his journey to success had just begun.
As long as you believe in yourself and have the support of the people you love, anything is possible when you put your mind and heart into it.
Rehan Staton’s journey may have just begun, but he is already on his way to success!
