Disney casts Halle Bailey as Ariel for their live-action remake “The Little Mermaid” and it’s official

Halle Bailey who is part of R&B duo Chloe X Halle will be playing the lead role in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid as Ariel.

The 19-year-old singer and actress are the latest to join the star-studded cast of the film alongside Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay who will be playing Scuttle and Flounder respectively.

“After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance — plus a glorious singing voice — all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role,” the film’s director, Rob Marshall said in a statement.

Halle also shared her excitement in starring the live-action of The Little Mermaid on her social media account with a picture of tan-skinned Ariel.

She also wrote a caption that says, ” Dream come true…”

Halle first rose to stardom after she and her sister, Chloe, caught the attention of Beyoncé with their amazing rendition of the singer’s song, “Pretty Hurts” in 2015.

It then landed them their first music contract with Parkwood Entertainment.

They then joined Beyoncé on her The Formation World tour around Europe and even performed for the opening act in her concert tour.

The two talented sisters also made an appearance in “Grown-ish” series as the regulars. Both Halle and Chloe wrote the theme song for the show.

Additional announcements about the details of the anticipated Disney film are expected to be made in the coming weeks.

The live-action adaptation of “The Little Mermaid” is expected to begin its shooting in early 2020.
