Most of the times, not many people could survive after having severe injuries to the neck due to a horrific car accident. However, this 16-month-old defies all odds and is now is set to walk again after a miraculous recovery.
Jaxon Taylor was travelling with his family along the Newell Highway in NSW when three reckless teenagers crashed into their car. The tragic accident had left Jaxon with life-threatening injuries and his neck was broken.
The injury meant that Jaxon’s neck was no longer attached to his spinal cord
The young toddler then was immediately rushed to Brisbane where he was treated by the Australian ‘godfather’ of spinal surgery, Dr. Geoff Askin
The incredible surgeon used one of Jaxon’s ribs to reconnect his vertebrae and neck in a six-hour operation.
According to Dr. Askin, “A lot of children wouldn’t survive that injury in the first place and if they did and they were resuscitated, they may never move or breathe again.”
“How that spinal cord has managed to go around that corner and not severed is a miracle”
After the surgery, he was placed in a medically-induced coma for three days and is now in the mid of series of treatments, including wearing a halo to help the bones fuse back together correctly
The accident also left his 9-year-old sister, Shayne, with severe internal bleeding.
Luckily, Shayne is also recovering well after she underwent three-and-a-half hours of surgery to stop her internal bleeding
Jaxon’s future used to look bleak but he is making a rapid progress.
The doctors are even amazed by his speedy recovery and said that his recovery is indeed a miraculous one
The fact that the little boy could survive after his neck was broken is a miracle of life!
We hope that Jaxon and Shayne will continue to recover well. We wish that Jaxon could walk again and enjoy his life as a healthy and strong boy.
