It was only two weeks ago that his wife passed away during a difficult childbirth. Now, new father Matthew Accurso has to say goodbye to his newborn son.
Baby Matthew has been fighting for his life in the NICU at Wolfson Children’s Hospital for two weeks after his mother, Lauren Accurso, passed away while giving birth to him.
37-year-old Lauren had a rare medical complication while giving birth to baby Matthew, according to Action News Jax.
Following the birth, baby Matthew has been staying in the NICU at the children’s hospital for 12 days.
The newborn is finally showing signs of improvement after nearly two weeks at the NICU.
This week, Matthew finally got to hold his newborn son for the very first time.
In spite of the progress in his health, baby Matthew’s family is still praying for a miracle.
His father, Matthew, recently said, “My miracle is holding my son for as many precious moments as possible and when the time comes, lifting him up to his mommy so that she can hold him for the first time in paradise.
“Thank you so much for all of the love and support that you have showered Matthew and our family with. It is because of your prayers that we have been able to have the sweetest family times around Matthew.
“I would be so grateful for your prayers in the coming days as we work with the doctors and medical staff and plan to see Matthew off to his mommy and Heavenly Father.”
In a heartbreaking footage shared on Twitter by user Amber Krycka, Matthew can be heard talking to his sleeping newborn, “What’s she doing? What’re you dreaming about? You dreaming about mommy?”
“Whatcha dreaming about? You dreaming about mommy?”
