New parents thought it was normal for their baby to scratch his head until doctor warned against it

One of the most pleasing and joyful moments is when your baby starts to play around with their nimble fingers. From sucking their fingers to learning to grab their soft toys, every movement they make is certainly adorable!

A pair of new parents from China was no exception when it comes to their baby. They were completely head over heels with their one-year-old baby, An An.

One day, they noticed there was something wrong with him when they observed how frequently he scratched his head.

At first, they thought that it was normal behavior for a baby around his age. However, they soon sensed that there was something not right two weeks later as he often frowned as if there was a stabbing pain in his head.

The mother then brought her baby to a doctor who later diagnosed the baby with otitis media, a condition where there is an inflammation of the middle ear.

The doctor also said that An An’s ear infection had become worse as it had happened for quite a while. Upon listening to the doctor’s explanation, the mother felt terribly guilty for noticing it late.

Luckily, the doctor said it was treatable for An An and he will recover from the infection but many people were shocked when this news becomes viral on the internet as this infection is relatively rare.

For your information, otitis media generally affects babies and children and it can go unnoticed.

According to NHS Inform, young children might have it if they have any of these symptoms below:

  • Irritability or trouble sleeping at night
  • Rubbing, pulling or tugging at the ears
  • Clumsiness or problems with balance
  • Trouble hearing or responding to quiet sounds
  • Coughing or runny nose
  • Diarrhea

If your child shows any of the symptoms above, it is best to consult for professional help to lessen your worries.

We hope that An An will recover soon from this ear infection and will never get it again.
