Movie sensation Aquaman just hit the $1 billion mark in earnings worldwide, and it is now the DC Extended Universe’s first feature to reach the impressive milestone.
As of last weekend, the hit action film’s global earnings stand at $1.02 billion, and it earned $287.3 million in China alone.
Actor Jason Momoa, who played as Aquaman himself, took to social media to thank everyone who made their extraordinary success possible.
Jason thanked his fans who had been with him since his early days in Baywatch.
“BILLION DOLLAR UNDERDOG. from baywatch to making what once was the most disrespected superhero into a billion dollar movie. no one gets to the top without the people that love them.
“My success is from my fans. All my aloha to everyone that had a hand in making this movie. Mahalo Zack for choosing me and mahalo James for creating this beautiful world,” Jason wrote on Instagram.
Aquaman takes the throne.
Director James Wan also expressed his thanks at the love and support the movie had received, contributing to the huge milestone.
“THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has supported this underdog. For making this non-mainstream character (and yes—with leading POC individuals in front and behind the camera!) connect on such a huge global scale. In the words of Aquaman himself, “MAHALO,” James Wan posted on Twitter.
The movie’s success means even more to the director as in the past, Aquaman was often ridiculed as a goofy character.
There are even talks underway for Aquaman 2—we can’t wait!
