The three contenders of Miss Universe were asked, “What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your life and how would you apply it to your time as Miss Universe?” Catriona Gray from the Philippines emerged as the new beauty queen and shared her answer with the rest of the world.
The Pinay beauty queen has a Master’s in music theory and volunteers as a teacher’s assistant to students of a non-governmental organization called Young Focus and also serves as an HIV/AIDS advocate at Love Yourself PH, an organization that provides HIV testing, education, and prevention.
Gray was so excited as she was preparing for the final show as seen from this video clip.
The moments that must have felt like forever for Gray before she was announced as the new queen.
And we just love Gray’s winning answer. The crown is rightfully yours!
“I work a lot in the slums of Tondo, Manila and the life there is very… it’s poor and it’s very sad. I’ve always taught myself to look for the beauty in it, to look in the beauty of the faces of the children and to be grateful. And I would bring this aspect as a Miss Universe to see situations with a silver lining, and to assess where I could give something, where I could provide something as a spokesperson. And this, I think, if I could teach also people to be grateful, we could have an amazing world where negativity could not grow and foster, and children will have a smile on their faces. Thank you.”
