In the world we live in today, society has inundated the portrayals of the “ideal” woman in the media. The beauty standards depicted in media and in advertisements hardly portray the average woman, causing most men to prefer thinner women.

Even though men typically prefer slim women, a study shows that men should not limit themselves in choosing their mates.

The Argentinian news site Nuevo Diario had published a radical claim on 15 January 2017.

The article headline translates to “Study Confirms That Chubby Women Make a Man Happier Than a Skinny Woman”

According to the new study which was conducted by Dr Filemón Alvarado and Dr Edgardo Morales at UNAM’s department of psychology, men who are in relationships with chubbier women tend to smile more. These relationships are also claimed to better at dealing with problems than men who are in relationships with thin women.

The study also claims that thin women tend to be more reserved and they are more likely to be unfriendly and less expressive with their emotions. Here are the reasons that sum up the research findings on why men who are in relationships with chubby women are ten times happier:

  • Chubby women do not put too much pressure on their partners to be fit.
  • They do not try to lose weight. This means more liberal eating habits!
  • Buying them their favorite chocolate can make them happy.
  • Chubby people in general have greater personalities and are more humorous.
  • Chubby women give the best hugs and are great to cuddle with.
  • Women who are bigger tend to be able to cook better. It is as the old saying goes, the way to a man’s heart is through his tummy.

Although this study is groundbreaking in terms of shifting the way we see chubby women, it sounds a little bit too good to be true and there are a number of skeptics who find it hard to believe that the study was ever even conducted. According to Snopes “a number of red flags were apparent right off the bat. The easiest to spot would be the fact that not a single news report on this topic provided a link to the “new study” it referenced.”

They also went on to try and find the research which would lead them to the study conducted by Dr Filemón Alvarado and Dr Edgardo Morales. Unfortunately they found that the researches mentioned had never published anything regarding this topic over at least the past two years.

We should just take this research with a pinch of salt and at the very least we could learn something from it. We should not judge the outward appearances of people because it should not matter of you’re skinny, chubby, tall, short, dark or fair as long as you love yourself just the way you are!
