Isn’t it absolutely frustrating when you have cooked a few dishes but could not finish it all in one sitting. Well, in order to prevent the food from getting bad, you should place leftover foods in the refrigerator so they can last longer as they will still be safe for consumption even after a few days.
This would bring up another problem and that is, your refrigerator would tend to get cluttered and messy over time. Ever so often people would forget what they had put in their fridge and the foods may eventually spoil.
So, what can you do?
You should definitely follow the way in which this Facebook user named Hani Mynis manages her fridge. According to Hani, she cleans out and reorganizes her fridge at least once a week. She also plans out the dishes she wants to cook for the week to come.
Here are some of the ways you can follow in order to organize and manage your refrigerator:
1. Lay a mat on each of your refrigerator shelves
You can choose to personalize your fridge according to your taste. One could use pattered or transparent mats for each of the shelves in their refrigerator. This would ensure that you can clean out the mats with ease so your fridge looks clean all the time. You would not have to go through the hassle of removing the individual trays out of the fridge to clean them.
2. Standardize your containers
It is recommended that you invest in the same kind of containers of the same color scheme to make your fridge look well put together. You should also think of getting square or rectangular containers to save space.
3. Label each of your containers
Mynis also shows that she has not only labelled all her containers but she also has a system to know where to place certain types of foods. She puts ingredients for cooking on the top shelf and she places dry ingredients on the bottom shelf.
4. Sauces should be placed by the refrigerator door
For cooking ingredients that are in liquid form such as sauces, Hani recommends that you place them on the refrigerator door. This is to ensure that the opened bottle of sauces will last longer.
5. Store milk in a different container
Fresh milk should be stored deeper inside the fridge and should not be placed on one of the door trays. This is because the door will always be opened and closed which would cause frequent change in temperatures and making the milk to spoil quicker.
6. Eggs can be placed on the shelf of the door
Store-bought eggs are not recommended to be washed before being put in the fridge as they come with a protective layer that ensure bacteria will not be able to enter the eggs. Instead, wash them just before you intend to use them.
7. Medicines should not be stored in the refrigerator
It is recommended that medicines, vitamins and supplements be stored in a cool and dry place, away from the sun. Please do not store inside the fridge.
