In May 2008, a large earthquake hit Sichuan, China and this has resulted in many damages and deaths. Many people got separated from their family and this also happened to Liao Zhi whom lost her 1-year-old baby daughter and both of her legs.
Before the tragic incident happened, Liao Zhi lived in Sichuan with her small family; her husband and her baby.
Her life seemed complete and perfect until the tragedy stroked her. She lost her baby in the earthquake and her legs got stuck in the ruins of the collapsed buildings.
She suffered from necrosis, which cause death of the cells in her legs tissues. Her legs could no longer be saved and they had to be amputated.
To Liao Zhi, this was one her biggest challenges in life as she worked as a dancer and dance teacher.
Her ex-husband whom was also the love of her life left her after her legs got amputated and no longer looked like she used to be when they first got married.
However, Liao Zhi did not give up. She understood that she must go on with her life and that the past could not be undone.
She remained positive and determined to pursue her goals as a talented dancer and dance teacher so she installed prosthetic legs.
5 years later in April, another earthquake hit China again in Ya An. Reminded of how difficult it was to be in the tragedy, Liao Zhi decided to go to Ya An and helped those who were affected by being a volunteer. She was determined to help them even in her prosthetic legs.
The public admired her for her efforts and empathies. They wondered why such beautiful woman volunteered to help the victims although she had a tough time to walk herself. So, Liao Zhi told them of what had happened to her and how she ended up with the prosthetic legs.
She just could not just sit around and do nothing to help them as she had already been in the tragedy before.
According to her, when she got stuck in the remnants of the collapsed buildings, a small and petite volunteer tried to rescue her.
The volunteer had inspired her to do the same so she went on to be a volunteer at Ya An.
She had also forgiven her ex-husband for leaving her.
She said she had moved on and the divorce turned her into a stronger woman that she has become today.
Now, she has met her real love and married to a man whom appreciates and accepts her as what she is.
She is now happier than ever.
